Prostate Cancer

While some prostate cancers grow and spread quickly, most of them grow slowly.

Found only in men, the prostate is a gland located in front of the rectum and underneath the urinary bladder. Its size varies with age. The prostate makes some of the fluid that protects and nourishes sperm cells in semen, which makes semen more liquid. Behind the prostate gland are the seminal vesicles which makes most of the fluid for semen, and the urethra, the tube that carries urine and semen out of the body through the penis, going through the center of the prostate.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), next to skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in American men after skin cancer. However, prostate cancer in American men is the second leading cause of cancer death behind lung cancer.

The 2011 ACS estimates for prostate cancer in the United States are approximately 240,890 new cases diagnosed, and about 33,720 men will die of prostate cancer. About 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime, and about 1 man in 36 will die of this disease

Treatments for prostate cancer include Radiation Therapy, Chemotherapy, Surgery, Hormone Therapy, Immunotherapy, and Nutrition therapy.

Ovarian Cancer

The American Cancer Society (ACS) states that Ovarian cancer is the ninth most common cancer in women (not counting skin cancer), and ranks fifth as the cause of cancer death in women. Of those women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, about half are 60 or older. They also state that it is more common in white women that African-American women.

The ACS’s most recent estimates for ovarian cancer in the United States for 2011 is: about 21,900 new cases of diagnosed ovarian cancer, and approximately 15,460 deaths from the disease.

While the exact cause(s) of ovarian cancer is not known, there are some risk factors involved. However, having a risk factor, or many risk factors does not mean that you will get the disease.

Lung Cancer

In the United States, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women and men. Yet it is one of the most preventable of cancers with smoking accounting for 85%-90% of lung cancer cases. It claims more lives than breast, prostate, and colon cancer combined. Early detection and treatment can make a major difference in life expectancy after a lung cancer diagnosis. If you don’t smoke, don’t start. And if you do smoke, quitting even after many years can significantly reduce the chances of developing lung cancer.

Facts about BREAST cancer according to the most recent ACS statistics

Breast cancer is a common cancer among American women, but lesser known is that it also affects men.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), “The chance of developing invasive breast cancer at some time in a woman’s life is a little less than 1 in 8 (12%).”

According to the most recent 2010 estimates by the ACS for breast cancer in the United States:

About 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.

About 54,010 new cases of carcinoma in situ (CIS) will be diagnosed (CIS is non-invasive and is the earliest form of breast cancer).

About 39,840 women will die from breast cancer

“After increasing for more than 2 decades, female breast cancer incidence rates decreased by about 2% per year from 1998 to 2007. This decrease was seen only in women aged 50 or older, and may be due at least in part to the decline in use of hormone therapy after menopause that occurred after the results of the Women’s Health Initiative were published in 2002. This study linked the use of hormone therapy to an increased risk of breast cancer and heart diseases.” (Emphasis by CHAI Foundation).

According to the ACS, decreases in death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1990, with larger decreases in women younger than 50. These decreases are believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment.

Among a small 35-patient study of various organ cancers conducted by CHAI Foundation’s Scientific Director Dr. Eric R. Brown outside the U.S., given LPN, were four (4) individuals exhibiting only breast cancer, or breast cancer in conjunction with metastases to other organs.

L.S., a 26-year-old female presented with Ca of the breast, liver, spine (adenosarcoma) after having been treated with surgery and chemotherapy two years earlier. After administration of LPN the commentary noted, “Patient responded. No sign of disease and released.”

A.F., a 26-year-old female having had no previous treatment for carcinoma of the breast with metastasis, appeared normal one year later after LPN treatment.

L.H., a 64 year old female with no prior treatment, presented with carcinoma, breast (adenocarcinoma) with abdominal metastasis. Patient initially sick and in pain. Treated with LPN. “Recovered, and released one year later.”

R.K., a 60 year old male with no previous treatment presented with adenocarcinoma of the breast with metastatic lesion to the liver and stomach. Administered LPN. “Patient is outgoing and appears well; drinks 2 quarts of beer and 20 oz. liquor daily.”

According to the American Cancer Society’s most recent 2010 estimates, pancreatic cancer in the United States remains the fourth leading cause of cancer death overall wherein “approximately 43,140 people (21,370 men and 21,770 women) will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.”

Of those statistics, 36,800 people (18,770 men and 18,030 women) will die of the disease.

They go on to say that the lifetime risk of developing pancreatic cancer is about 1 in 71 (1.41%), which is about the same for both men and women.

A person’s risk may be altered by certain factors among which include smoking – including people who use smokeless tobacco – obesity, lack of physical activity, and an increased risk factor for this disease in those with cirrhosis of the liver.
